YOUR GOALS:
LEARN how to respond and survive a catastrophic emergency should one occur.
DEVELOP an Emergency Plan.
PRACTICE and maintain your emergency plan.
First 72 Hours – YOU MAY NEED TO SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN AFTER A DISASTER!
This means having your own food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least three days. Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster; however, they cannot reach everyone immediately. You could get help in hours, or it might take days.
HOW DO YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?
The best way is to be prepared to respond to an emergency before it happens! Few people can think clearly and logically in a crisis, so it is important to do so in advance, when you have time to be thorough.
KNOWING HOW TO TREAT MINOR INJURIES CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
In any emergency a family member or you may be cut, burned or suffer other injuries. If you have basic supplies you are better prepared to help yourself and loved ones if they are hurt.
MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO BE PREPARED.
Commit a weekend to updating telephone numbers, getting emergency supplies and reviewing your emergency plan with everyone.
