HOME PREPAREDNESS
Discuss what your family should do for each type of disaster

  • Find the safe areas in your home to take shelter.
  • Determine the best escape routes from your home.
  • Pick places to meet. Choose a location outside your home to meet if you or your family cannot return to your home. Pick local and out-of- own family check-in points for everyone to call if your family gets separated.
  • Inquire about emergency plans at places where your family spends time: work, daycare and school.
  • Take the Get Ready* and/or Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class.
  • Know key phone numbers; emergency, family.
  • Create a kit of emergency supplies.
  • Know the location of all fire extinguishers.
  • Keep copies at-hand of insurance and vital records.
  • Make plans for special needs i.e. medical, handicaps etc.
  • Prepare a Kit for Pets that includes food, medication etc.
  • Get to know your neighbors and inquire as to whether they have an emergency plan.

GET READY - BE PREPARED!
http://www.getready94920.org/
To help you prepare, the Disaster Preparedness Task Force is offering a two-hour course to teach you what to do before, during and after a regional disaster.  That’s all it takes - two hours. You owe it to your family. You owe it to your neighbors. You owe it to your community. Belvedere and Tiburon are looking to become the first communities in the nation to have 100% of our households certified and ready for a disaster.

YOUR GOALS:
  • LEARN how to respond and survive a catastrophic emergency should one occur.
  • DEVELOP an Emergency Plan.
  • PRACTICE and maintain your emergency plan.

First 72 Hours – YOU MAY NEED TO SURVIVE ON YOUR OWN AFTER A DISASTER!
This means having your own food, water, and other supplies in sufficient quantity to last for at least three days.  Local officials and relief workers will be on the scene after a disaster; however, they cannot reach everyone immediately.  You could get help in hours, or it might take days.

HOW DO YOU PROTECT YOURSELF?
The best way is to be prepared to respond to an emergency before it happens!  Few people can think clearly and logically in a crisis, so it is important to do so in advance, when you have time to be thorough.

KNOWING HOW TO TREAT MINOR INJURIES CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
In any emergency a family member or you may be cut, burned or suffer other injuries.  If you have basic supplies you are better prepared to help yourself and loved ones if they are hurt.

MAKE IT A PRIORITY TO BE PREPARED.
Commit a weekend to updating telephone numbers, getting emergency supplies and reviewing your emergency plan with everyone.
Knowing how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a disaster can not only make you feel more secure, it could save your life, or the life of a loved one.  Remember, knowing what to do in emergencies is your responsibility. More importantly, knowing what to do is the best protection for you and your family. Discuss what your family should do for each type of disaster:
